1) When you have located Toomey's Black-N-Blue
Thornless Berry Farm, enter
and proceed 800 feet down the driveway. We will meet you with a smile and
guide you to the parking area. We have plastic buckets to assist you with
your picking needs.
2) We will direct you toward the berries and even provide you with a short
lesson so that you will pick the best berries.
3) The ripe berries are totally black. We want you to eat some as you pick.
4) Although we have 7 ponds within 1/4 of a mile, mosquitoes are typically
not a problem. We have three Purple Martin bird houses on the property.
There are usually dozens of martins. Each martin will eat1,000 mosquitoes
per day.
5) Chiggers and snakes are always a topic of discussion as people begin to
pick. We keep the grass mowed at approximately 1". This is a shorter length
than most homes in town. It is a farm and we have taken steps to insure your
safety.
6) Blackberries are extremely perishable. With refrigeration, I would keep
them one or two days. Without refrigeration, they will only last a few
hours. Blackberries will freeze well. I recommend rinsing them. Let them dry
on a paper towel with a cookie sheet underneath. Place them in a freezer bag
or container to freeze. They will last all winter.
